The National Film Awards is the most important film award ceremony organized in India. Established in late 1954, this is administrated by the Indian government's Directorate of Film Festivals since 1973.Every year, a national panel that is appointed by the government choose the winning entry, and the award ceremony is organized in New Delhi, where the President of India gives away the awards. Bollywood actor Salman Khan starrer Dabangg put the foot forward at the International Indian Film Academy awards, organized and for the first time in North America.Dabangg won Best Film award and the highly essential music categories for best female playback singer, best male playback singer and best music direction, as well as best screenplay. On the other side, Shahrukh Khan starrer My Name is Khan in which SRK is showcased as a Muslim suffering from Asperger's syndrome who is put under custody at a US airport after his disability is mistaken for mistrustful behaviour, got awards for best story and best lyrics.

The hit movie, nominated in seven categories, also took home the prize for best direction.Shahrukh has taken the trophy for Best Actor in My Name is Khan with him and asserted that it’s great that he’s getting the award from Million Dollar Baby and Slumdog Millionaire stars. My Name Is Khan gave SRK that reason to speak his own mind with a character. Karan Johar won the best director award for My Name Is Khan. American actor Cuba Gooding Jr presented him the award.

A simple girl who made her mark in Bollywood soon and established herself as an accomplished actress so far, Anushka Sharma won the award for Female Leading Role for Band Baaja Baraat. The actress said that it feels great and thanked Toronto for all love and support.Indian screenwriter Shibani Bhatija won Best Story for My name Is Khan. The IIFA launched in 2000 at the Millennium Dome in London, the annual IIFA awards were organized in eleven cities around the world, including Colombo, Macao, Bangkok, Dubai, Amsterdam and Johannesburg. SRK rocked IIFA with his dance performance

The real king of Bollywood Shahrukh Khan grab the show at IIFA 2011, organized at the Roger Centre in Toronto on Saturday night, by giving out an exhilarating performance at the event with his injured knee. It is said that Shahrukh Khan left his uncountable fans and critics at the awards function with their eyes wide open with shock, when after performing on the ‘Dabangg’ number, the filmstar left the stage with bleeding knees.

Before I forget to mention, an observer at the event a person told that it was a creepy picture that came infront of all present at the event. The organizers had tailored SRK’s dancing steps in keeping with his injury. But Shahrukh completely overlooked the boundaries forced by his injury and started dancing like a crazy man. But soon after the performance was completed he just drooped out.Ace choreographer Shiamak Davar and his team had choreographed painless dance steps for the superstar. However, SRK performed enthusiastically at the IIFA, not putting much attention of easy and tough dance steps and enthralled the crowd at the event.

Shiamak also said that Shahrukh danced through his pain like a perfect dancer as if nothing had happened to him. Though he was in great pain. Ever since there have been news that Salman Khan and the Bachchans won’t be attending IIFA 2011, assumptions have been lifted that these bigwigs gave the event a miss because of Shahrukh’s presence.However, Shahrukh putting rest at the gossips mentioned that he actually don't understand what media wanted to ask. The actor also said that together they all have been under one crown several times and are always proud of all the award functions,

IIFA Awards 2011 are organized every year by the International Indian Film Academy to credit and award the performers and technicians of Bollywood industry. Dabbang emerged as the winner at IIFA

Salman Khan starrer "Dabangg", which was 2010’s biggest Bollywood success, was considered as the best movie at the sizzling 12th International Indian Film Academy awards held in Toronto. The action-comedy genre received seven awards. Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan was named the best male actor for his performance as an asperger patient in Karan Johar's "My Name Is Khan", while Anushka Sharma bagged the best female actress award for her energetic performance of a wedding planner in "Band Baaja Baraat".

Paying tributes to Yash Johar, whose seventh death anniversary falls Sunday, SRK said that he’s honored that he could receive this award on this day. SRK also said that he have received so much love that he felt as if he belongs to Toronto. KaranJohar, who got the best filmmaker award for "My Name Is Khan" and said that this is his first IIFA award. On the whole, “Dabangg" got seven awards, including best female debut for Sonakshi Sinha too.

RanvirSingh won the award for best debut male award for "Band Baaja Baaraat". The award for male supporting role went to Arjun Rampal for playing a politician in the political thriller "Raajneeti" that also starred Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif. PrachiDesai won the trophy for female supporting role for her performace in "Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai". Whereas, MamtaSharma won the award for best female playback singer for her song "Munni Badnaam hui" from "Dabanng".

Gitanjali Rao who has already won the Kodak Discovery Award for her best short film at the Cannes Film Festival in the year 2006, for ‘The Printed Rainbow’. Now she has been invited to join the jury for this year. This 64th Cannes Film Festival will start from May 11 to May 22, 2011. Gitanjali Rao will be on jury of the Kodak Discovery Award for short films. After this announcement, she said that she is very thrilled to be on the Kodak jury of the Cannes festival.

The award is presented by the Semaine International de la Critique (SIC, International Critics’ Week), a prestigious parallel section of the Cannes festival open only to first and second films. Gitanjali Rao's 'Printed Rainbow', an exquisite, feminist animation film about an old woman and her cat who escapes into a dream world inspired by matchbox labels, made a spectacular debut at Cannes in 2006. It scooped up three awards for best short film in the Critics' Week - the Kodak Discovery Award, the Rail d'Or and Young Critics' Award. The film traveled to over 100 international festivals and won 27 awards. Gitanjali Rao is the first Indian animation film director to be invited on the Kodak Discovery Award jury.

The Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF) has given invitation to the entries for the 58th National Film Awards for 2010 which will be accessible in three sections as feature films, non-feature films and best writing on cinema. The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) voting weekend for the award in Toronto has been opened on Friday to the members of the Indian Film fraternity. It has been speculated that Kareena leads the first vote. Other actors who cast their votes were Arjun Rampal, Sonu Sood, Karan Johar, Riteish Deshmukh, Ramesh Sippy, J.P. Dutta, Manmohan Shetty, Karan Johar and the other members of the film industry and the Advisory Board of IIFA.

IIFA Awards to be held in Toronto

The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards are set to be organized in Toronto from June 16 till June19, 2011. Bollywood celebrities Vivek Oberoi and Celina Jaitely, announced about the event in the presence of Ontario’s Premier Dalton McGuinty.

McGuinty however mentioned that to win this opportunity to host the 2011 IIFA awards, one has to know that Bollywood is in Ontario, especially Toronto. He also told the stars here that Toronto city is the city of five billion people; 52 percent or half of the people living here were born outside the country. And a big component of that comes from the Asian community, particularly from India. So this is gonna be exciting to have a gathering here. It was also stated that the IIFA awards should attract about 40 thousand visitors to the city and another 350 million audiences to television screens worldwide.

South Asians make up the largest perceptible minority in Toronto, with about 300,000, 12 per cent of the whole city’s population. Bollywood actress Celina Jaitley in an interview that Canada is a big support for Bollywood as there is huge fan following there. She further added that she is pretty sure that this time IIFA will be really big because a large number of fans are from Canada itself. IIFA ceremonies have been earlier hosted by Dubai, Amsterdam, Johannesburg and Bangkok. This time too it’ll be a great evening with stars twinkling all around!!!!

10th Indian Telly Awards

India's leading television celebrities and stalwarts shone bright at Indiantelevision. com's The 10th Indian Telly Awards 2010 where popular categories in television was honoured and recognised. Sasural Genda Phool’s 'Ragini Khanna' and Tere Liye’s 'Harshad Chopra' walked away with the best actress and best actor award as per the reports in the popular category.

Another highlight were the six 10th Anniversary special awards, which were given away to Bollywood diva Priyanka Chopra, Sajid Khan, Balaji Telefilms' Ekta Kapoor, Ronit Roy, Anurag Basu, and Saroj Khan. The Awards night was telecasted on Colors on Sunday, 19 December at 8 pm. Deven Bhojani of Baa Bahu Aur Baby and Avika Gor for Balika Vadhu got jury awards for male and female actors. Much hyped daily soap 'Uttaran' was awarded as the most popular serial, while Sapna Babul Ki Bidaii was the Most Popular Continuing TV programme.

President presents the national awards

The 57th National Film Awards were presented recently. The awards ceremony was held at New Delhi and the awards were presented by the President Pratibha Patil. Many Bollywood personalities as well as political personalities were seen at this ceremony. The president gave the award for the Best Actor to Amitabh Bachchan for his wonderful performance in the movie Paa.

This movie also stars Vidya Balan and Abhishek Bachchan, apart from Amitabh. Filmmaker D. Rama Naidu was given the Dadasaheb Phalke award. This award is given for the outstanding contribution in the development and growth of Indian cinema. The movie 3 Idiots was also given the award for the Best Entertaining Feature Film. The award for the Best Supporting Actress was given to Arundhati Nag for her performance in Paa.

National Film Awards ceremony Black(ed) out !

During the 57th National Awards ceremony which was held on the eve of 22nd of October, 2010 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, there was something common, something which obviously drew the attention of many. Well it was “Black”..no! Not the movie “Black” but of course, the black colour.

During this ceremony, most of the people from the Indian film fraternity were seen wearing the black colour. Both Amitabh Bachchan and his son Abhishek Bachchan were seen in formal black suits. On the other hand, Amitabh Bachchan’s wife Jaya Bachchan was also seen in a black saree with white motifs. However, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the daughter-in-law of the Bachchans was wearing a south Indian silk sari.

The other Bollywood celebs in black attire included the popular filmmaker D. Ramanaidu, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Rajkumar Hirani, Swanand Kirkire, host Javed Jaffrey, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra etc. These national film awards were given by Smt. Pratibha Patil.

Manoj Kumar gets Lifetime achievement award

The 12th Mumbai film Festival was concluded recently. In these awards, Manoj Kumar has received the Lifetime Achievement Award. The international Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Oliver Stone. The movie Majority got the award of the Best Movie. The 12th Mumbai film Festival was a gala affair of eight interesting and glamorous days.

On the last day of this event, Fardeen Khan and Raima Sen were seen hosting the event. On this proud moment of Lifetime achievement award, Manoj Kumar said that Oliver Stone was Oliver Stone till he came to India but after landing in India, he became a precious gem, priceless stone.

Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan , the talented director of the Bollywood industry received the award called the Indira Gandhi Award for the best Debut Film of a Director at the function of 57th National Film Awards. This award was given to him by the President of India, Mrs. Pratibha Patil. This award ceremony which was held on 22nd October, 2010 at New Delhi was quite magnificent and interesting.

Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan got this award for his debut movie Lahore which has already bagged many International Awards. NE film fest of India in the coming month

The coming up Indian Film Festival is the North East Film Festival which will be organized in the month of November, that is the coming month. The event will actually commence November 16. The festival will go on for three days. The renowned film makers from the North East region will be participating in this NE Fest along with some other big wigs.

The North East Film Festival of 2010 will have the theme of ‘The natives of a nation’. This interesting fest will also showcase documentary films and feature films from across the country. The festival would showcase movies of a total of 15 hours from the NE, that is, Northeastern region. The remaining 10 hours duration for the same will be taken from the rest of the country.

The North East Film Festival event is being arranged by NEFTPDA, that is, the North East Film and TV Producers’ Directors’ Association. Jahnu Barua is the president of this association. He is also a famous film-maker. Various eminent personalities from across the country will be present in this event to judge different type of interesting films.

Shyam Benegal to be honored at the Third Eye Asian Film Festival

The 3rd Eye Asian Film Festival is going to honour the renowned filmmaker of Indian cinema - Shyam Benegal. This grand festival will be organized from 29th October to 14th November in Mumbai. In this festival, 80 films and 50 short movies from the Asian countries will be showed.

The director of this festival, Sudhir Nandgaonkar, stated that Benegal will be honored because of his experience in cinema. Sudhir also said that Shyam Benegal has been a great force in Bollywood and he will be given the Asian Film Culture award. Some of the famous movies of Shyam Benegal include Ankur, Junoon, Kalyug etc

Nandgaonkar also informed that the festival will be inaugurated by Son of Babylon, an Iraqi film. The Asian Film Culture award is given to the Asian directors for providing respect to their experience and to honor their achievements. Indian Film Festival of Houston Awards

The Indian Film Festival of Houston awards were organized at Royal Oaks Country Club. The club was full of celebrities in attractive and glittering dresses. Men were wearing smart Nehru jackets and the women were in beautiful sarees. This was the second yearly Indian Film Festival of Houston awards evening. The day marked the dazzling ending of the 4-day festival. The festival screened various popular feature films short films and documentaries produced by the Indian producers.

The award of Best Feature Film was given to Udaan. It has been directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. The award of Best Documentary was bagged by Woman Rebel which has been directed by Kiran Deol. The award of Best Short Film went to You Can't Curry Love which was directed by Reid Waterer. Dilip Mehta for Cooking with Stella got the “Special Recognition” award.

The excited guests at this grand ceremony held at the Royal Oaks Country Club were clad in best of Indian attire. Vikramaditya Motwane , the famous director won Best Feature for UDAAN. Also Dilip Mehta, another name in the list of famous directors, won the Special Recognition Award for Cooking with Stella. The Indian Film Festival Awards at Houstan awarded its first Philantrophy Award to Dr. Carolyn Farb. Also present at this ceremony was Iqbal Khan, the famous Indian TV star and the heartthrob of many Indian girls. He got the award called the Master of Ceremonies. The award night marked the end of the 5-day festival which was celebrating the Indian talent and culture.

At the Indian Film Festival Awards at Houstan, Iqbal Khan was present with his wife. This actor is famous for his role of "Angad Khanna" in the serial titled Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai. Amitabh Bachchan gets National Award for Paa

Bollywood legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan has recently finished his hat-trick by bagging his third Best Actor award at the 57th National Film Awards. The award for the best actress was given to Ananya Chaterjee for 'Aabo Hawa'. These National Awards were declared on September 15, 2010.

Amitabh has won this award for his brilliant performance in the movie Paa. The movie Paa had Amitabh Bachchan in the exclusive role of a 12 years old child who suffered from a rare disorder – progeria. Progeria is the disease in which the person physically grows at a very fast speed and you may say that the patient becomes old at a tender age, though his mental level remains at a normal point. The movie starred Vidya Balan, Abhishek Bachchan and of course Amitabh Bachchan.

Earlier also Amitabh Bachchan has won two National Awards. He was given the National Award for his movie 'Agneepath' . He also bagged the National Awards for 'Hum' which starred Rajnikanth, Govinda and others apart from Big B.

The famous legendary and veteran film producer Dr. D. Ramanaidu from Andhra Pradesh has been conferred the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2009. This award is given by the Indian govern ent in the field of Indian Cinema for the outstanding contribution.

Under this award a Swarn Kamal, a cash prize of Rs.10 lakhs and a shawl is given to the awardee. Dr. Ramanaidu stepped into the film world in 1963. His first film was Anuraga. He has produced more than 130 films in many Indian languages. His name has also been mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records.

Peepli Live will open Indian Film Fest of London

Peepli Live, the recent movie produced by Aamir Khan, is all set to open the inaugural edition of the Indian Film Festival of London. This festival will be held from 25 to 29 August. The venue for the same would be London's Riverside Studios. As far as the closing of this festival is concerned, well, Shemaroo Entertainment's Ishqiya has been chosen for closing this festival.

Other Bollywood movies which will be screened at this festival include Naa Jaane Kyun, Claire McCarthy's The Waiting City and Pravesh Bhardwaj's Mr. Singh Mrs. Mehta. The documentary section of this festival will include Duane Baugham's Bhutto, Deepa Mehta's Nero's Guests etc. A retrospective of filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra will also be showed.

Canada will sign a treaty at IIFA 2011

The latest news is that Canada will sign a film and new media co-production treaty with India. The treaty will be signed at the 12th edition of the International Indian Film Academy Awards, that is, IIFA. These IIFA 2011 are scheduled to be held in Toronto. Now you must be thinking that what difference does this treaty make to the Indian cinema. Right? Well… this treaty will help the Indian filmmakers to get an access to the North American country's scenic locales which will also include British Columbia (BC).

Pratap Raju, managing director (technology, research and innovation), British Columbia International Trade and Investment Representative Office said that they are planning to open their office at Mumbai and are also looking forward to plan trips for the Indian film makers. These trips will take the Bollywood filmmakers for location-scouting to BC.

British Columbia is the third-largest film television centre in North America. This Canadian province is famous for the shooting locations of various documentaries, movies, serials, television series etc. That is why the treaty with India will definitely provide tremendous opportunities to the Indian directors and producers.

Digital films to be accepted by National Film Awards committee

From now on, the National Film Awards committee will start accepting the digital films too for the awards. Even if these films are not released with a celluloid print, these digital films can be submitted. In fact a petition was filed by filmmakers of Manipur. At Manipur the theaters have been closed because of militancy and the filmmaking there has gone completely digital.

That is why this decision has been taken by the committee. This committee was led by filmmaker Shyam Benegal. The new changes will take place from National Film awards 2009 onwards. These National Film awards 2009 are likely to be announced on September 15.

The good change is that the cash prize for the Best Film has been increased to the amount of Rs 1.5 lakh from Rs 1 lakh. This amount will be given to both the director and producer. The cash prize for the Best Debut Non-Feature Film Award has been raised from Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000.

More significance to regional language films at the National Film Awards

In order to provide more significance and spotlight to the regional language films at the National Film Awards, the government has decided to soon introduce a new two-tier selection system. The delayed selections for the year 2009 Awards will be announced under the new system.

This decision comes on the basis of recommendations which was submitted by an expert committee. This committee was headed by filmmaker Shyam Benegal.
For this new procedure, five regional panels will be constituted to select the various best films in their own areas. Then a central jury will make the final award decision.

The northern region will include films in languages like English, Punjabi, Dogri, Urdu, Bhojpuri, Rajasthani and central Indian languages. The western region will include films of Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati and Konkani languages. Similarly the other regions will also have certain categories.

57th Idea Filmfare Award(South)

2. While there are more than 31 awards today, Filmfare awards in 1954 had only four categories- best film, best actor, best actress, best director and best music director.
3. Hollywood superstar Gregory Peck was invited to be the guest of honor at the first Filmfare Awards held at Metro Theatre on 21st March, 1954. However Peck could not attend the awards function as his flight from Colombo where he was shooting for Purple Rain, was delayed. Star Plus will show IIFA 2010 this month

The star studded International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards, which were held in Colombo in June, will be telecast by Star Plus this month. The IIFA Curtain raiser was telecast on July 4 followed by the IIFA Weekend with the Stars which will be shown on July 10 at 4.30 pm. The IIFA Awards will be televised on July 18 starting 6.30 pm.

It was hosted by three Bollywood star Boman Irani, Riteish Deshmukh and Lara Dutta and the show featured acts by the Lanka’s maiden child, Jacqueline Fernandez.

Other Bollywood stars had also attended the function like Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Salman Khan, Govinda, Anil Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Vivek Oberoi and Hrithik Roshan.
