2. While there are more than 31 awards today, Filmfare awards in 1954 had only four categories- best film, best actor, best actress, best director and best music director.
3. Hollywood superstar Gregory Peck was invited to be the guest of honor at the first Filmfare Awards held at Metro Theatre on 21st March, 1954. However Peck could not attend the awards function as his flight from Colombo where he was shooting for Purple Rain, was delayed. Gregory, however made it for the banquet at Willingdon Sports Club, post the award ceremony.

9. Bollywood actress Vyajayantimala refused to accept the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for the film Devdas because she considered herself the lead heroine who was actually Suchitra Sen.
10. Sholay, which is one of the highest grossing film in Bollywood was awarded only one award for best editing.
