2. While there are more than 31 awards today, Filmfare awards in 1954 had only four categories- best film, best actor, best actress, best director and best music director.
3. Hollywood superstar Gregory Peck was invited to be the guest of honor at the first Filmfare Awards held at Metro Theatre on 21st March, 1954. However Peck could not attend the awards function as his flight from Colombo where he was shooting for Purple Rain, was delayed. Gregory, however made it for the banquet at Willingdon Sports Club, post the award ceremony.
4. Filmfare was originally named as "Claire Awards". It was named so after the TOI film critic, Clare Mendonca.
5. The first Filmfare Award for best director was won by Bimal Roy for the film ' Do Bigha Zameen'.
6. The first Filmfare Award for best actor was won by Dilip Kumar for his performance in the film 'Daag'
