It was Bachchan all the way at IIFA’s day one at Macau. Yet another Amitabh Bachchan statue was unveiled and the Bachchan family was present to witness the event.

IIFA, in an attempt to send out eco-friendly signals has rolled out a green carpet on day one.

Actress Sonam Kapoor too was present at the event. “I have had a massage, I have rehearsed, I have done a lot of things,” said the bubbly actress.

Lara Dutta said, "Riteish taught me how to gamble which is going to be a little bit later, but what’s more exciting is that I won. Because normally I don't gamble, I don't know how to play, so not too bad."

Former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen said, “I am here to promote my film.”

The current hot favourites, the little stars from Slumdog Millionaire were also spotted.

IIFA Brand Ambassador "Lavish Suite" in Macau

Amitabh BachchanAmitabh Bachchan via last.fm

  • IIFA Brand Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan is residing in an extra Lavish
Suit in Macau, China, the venue of 2009 IIFA.

The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards had well
deservedly allotted the best suite in the hotel that hosts the
celebrity guests of the event. It is now learnt that this year it is
to be no exception either.

The IIFA Awards this year are being hosted by The Venetian, Macau and
just like its sister property The Venetian in Las Vegas, The Venetian
Macao is also a Renaissance Venice-themed property featuring famous
landmarks from Venice with over 3000 suites. The best of them all has
been specially kept reserved for Mr. and Mrs. Amitabh Bachchan.

It is on the seventh floor having its own private swimming pool, patio
and lawn. Reportedly the suite contains three master bedrooms with
each bedroom having its own steam, sauna, exercise and massage room.
Interestingly, the bathroom is entirely operated by gadgets. There is
a switch that ensures that the collapsible pot is opened. Then the
second switch washes you after your use while the third one dries you
up. And funnily, the last switch powders your backside.

When Big B made his visit to Macao earlier this month for a
promotional activity, he stayed at that very same suite. He was
mightily impressed by the luxurious facilities it offered him but at
the same time he was overheard saying that, “It needs a golf buggy to
take me from the bedroom to the bathroom. It is really far.”

For the IIFA 2009 awards in China that are still a month away are raging with controversies. Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar is outraged that although he has been nominated in the best-director category, his film, Fashion, didn’t make the best movie shortlist.

And alike SRK, Salman Khan has also reportedly backed out of the famous IIFA Awards 2009 in Macao.

Just like the last year, this time as well, the event is expected to be Bachchans bastion.

Loosing some of the star power last year itself, IIFA 2009 after the withdrawal of Salman Khan could give a huge setback to organizers of this event.

This is because Salman Khan was supposed to perform at the awards night and also promote his upcoming flick ‘Wanted Dead And Alive’, stepped out at the last minute.

Salman had missed this event last year as well supposedly because Katrina Kaif had performed with Akshay Kumar.
