Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge which is popularly known as DDLJ was a superhit movie of the year 1995. The movie was directed by Aditya Chopra. It had Shahrukh Khan, Kajol, Farida Jalal and Amrish Puri as the star cast. The movie earned more than Rs 580 million in India.

'Kuch Kuch hota hai ' awards list

'Kuch Kuch hota hai ' is a Hindi Romantic comedy, the movie was released in India on October 16, 1998. The film was written and Directed by Karan Johar. It starred the popular pair of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan and Kajol, the actors are well known for their on screen chemistry. Peepli Live will open Indian Film Fest of London

Peepli Live, the recent movie produced by Aamir Khan, is all set to open the inaugural edition of the Indian Film Festival of London. This festival will be held from 25 to 29 August. The venue for the same would be London's Riverside Studios. As far as the closing of this festival is concerned, well, Shemaroo Entertainment's Ishqiya has been chosen for closing this festival.

Other Bollywood movies which will be screened at this festival include Naa Jaane Kyun, Claire McCarthy's The Waiting City and Pravesh Bhardwaj's Mr. Singh Mrs. Mehta. The documentary section of this festival will include Duane Baugham's Bhutto, Deepa Mehta's Nero's Guests etc. A retrospective of filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra will also be showed.

This retrospective will have movies like Parinda, 1942: A Love Story, Eklavya: The Royal Guard and 3 Idiots. The benefits of this festival will go to UNICEF. The aim of this festival is to popularize the deserving offbeat Bollywood and regional Indian cinema .

Canada will sign a treaty at IIFA 2011

The latest news is that Canada will sign a film and new media co-production treaty with India. The treaty will be signed at the 12th edition of the International Indian Film Academy Awards, that is, IIFA. These IIFA 2011 are scheduled to be held in Toronto. Now you must be thinking that what difference does this treaty make to the Indian cinema. Right? Well… this treaty will help the Indian filmmakers to get an access to the North American country's scenic locales which will also include British Columbia (BC).

IIFA 2011Pratap Raju, managing director (technology, research and innovation), British Columbia International Trade and Investment Representative Office said that they are planning to open their office at Mumbai and are also looking forward to plan trips for the Indian film makers. These trips will take the Bollywood filmmakers for location-scouting to BC.

British Columbia is the third-largest film television centre in North America. This Canadian province is famous for the shooting locations of various documentaries, movies, serials, television series etc. That is why the treaty with India will definitely provide tremendous opportunities to the Indian directors and producers.

Digital films to be accepted by National Film Awards committee

From now on, the National Film Awards committee will start accepting the digital films too for the awards. Even if these films are not released with a celluloid print, these digital films can be submitted. In fact a petition was filed by filmmakers of Manipur. At Manipur the theaters have been closed because of militancy and the filmmaking there has gone completely digital.

That is why this decision has been taken by the committee. This committee was led by filmmaker Shyam Benegal. The new changes will take place from National Film awards 2009 onwards. These National Film awards 2009 are likely to be announced on September 15.

The good change is that the cash prize for the Best Film has been increased to the amount of Rs 1.5 lakh from Rs 1 lakh. This amount will be given to both the director and producer. The cash prize for the Best Debut Non-Feature Film Award has been raised from Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000.

More significance to regional language films at the National Film Awards

In order to provide more significance and spotlight to the regional language films at the National Film Awards, the government has decided to soon introduce a new two-tier selection system. The delayed selections for the year 2009 Awards will be announced under the new system.

National Film AwardsThis decision comes on the basis of recommendations which was submitted by an expert committee. This committee was headed by filmmaker Shyam Benegal.
For this new procedure, five regional panels will be constituted to select the various best films in their own areas. Then a central jury will make the final award decision.

The northern region will include films in languages like English, Punjabi, Dogri, Urdu, Bhojpuri, Rajasthani and central Indian languages. The western region will include films of Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati and Konkani languages. Similarly the other regions will also have certain categories.

57th Idea Filmfare Award(South)

The biggest South Indian film award function was held in Chennai on August 07, Saturday. This was the much awaited 57th Idea Filmfare Award(South). This was a true star-studded award ceremony. The actors, actresses, directors, producers from the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam film fraternity came together to attend these awards.

In the Tamil category, Kanchivaram movie by Priyadarshan won three awards. This is a period movie. Prakash Raj won the Best Actor's award while Shammu won the award for Best Supporting Role (female). Prakash had played the role of Vengadam in the film Kanchivaram and Shammu had played Prakash Raj's daughter in this movie.

There were a lot of dance performances and the event was full of fun, glamour and excitement. A number of South indian stars performed on the stage and entertained everybody. There were the famous faces like Shreya Saran, Trisha Krishnan, Tamanna Bhatia etc.

Mr. and Mrs. Iyer and its bag full of awards

Mr. and Mrs. Iyer is an Indian drama film which was released in 2002. This movie was written and directed by Aparna Sen. N. Venkatesan was the producer of this movie. The movie had Rahul Bose and Konkana Sen in the lead roles. Basically the movie throws a light on our national integration and at the same time it also portrays the tension and stress during riots.

Aamir Khan’s Peepli Live awarded as the Best Feature Film

Aamir Khan's movie Peepli Live has been awarded as the Best First Feature Film in the 31st Durban International Film Festival which were held recently. This movie has been written by Anusha Rizvi. Also the movie is the first directorial venture of Anusha.

The film covers three important topics of India including the farmers, the media scenario and the politics. The movie revolves around these three topics only. Regarding the screening and award of the movie in South Africa, Aamir Khan said that South Africa has been very lucky for him and he hopes that this luck extends to Peepli Live as well. Earlier also Aamir Khan’s film Lagaan had its world premiere at Sun City in South Africa.

Aamir also said that Peepli Live has been very well received at all the major film festivals. It has already been at the Sundance Film Festival and it was the first Indian film to be selected for the competition section there. The 31st Durban film fest was held from 22 July to 1 August.
