The National Film Awards

The National Film Awards is the most important film award ceremony organized in India. Established in late 1954, this is administrated by the Indian government's Directorate of Film Festivals since 1973.Every year, a national panel that is appointed by the government choose the winning entry, and the award ceremony is organized in New Delhi, where the President of India gives away the awards. This is followed by the investiture of the National Film Festival,
National Film Awardswhere the award-winning movies are screened for the public. Announced for flicks produced in the previous year worldwide, they hold the division of awarding worth to the best of Indian cinema on the whole, as well as presenting awards for the best movies in each region and language of the country.A list of rules is presented every year in a document of regulation chart known as the National Film Award Regulations. The criteria for eligibility surrounds many norms. Among them, there is a direct requirement for the makers of a movie, and most important the filmmaker, to be Indian nationals.

Films entering the competition should be produced in India, and in case of co-production involving a international country,there are as many as six conditions which should be accomplished in order for the movie to make the grade. According to the terms, in order to be eligible for consideration of the jury, a flick should be most probably certified by the Central Board of Film Certification between January 1 and December 31st. Whether a project is acknowledged a feature film or a non-feature film shall be decided by the Feature Film jury. The eligibility list involve a section of rules and regulations shaping which films shall not by eligible for entry in the competition.

Power-couple Malaika and Arbaaz at IIFA

Bollywood famous celebrities, including the evergreen hottest couple Malaika Arora Khan and Arbaaz Khan and actress Amisha Patel were invited to walk down the green-carpet earlier to the televised screening of the IIFA ceremony at the Ritz Carlton at the DIFC. Screen rough and tough man Salman Khan’s corrupt police officer image in “Dabangg” created waves worldwide and the movie also won a bunch of awards including best picture at the “Bollywood Oscars for the first time in North America.

Actress Anushka Sharma won for best leading female role for the romantic comedy “Band Baaja Baaraat” and the film was the directing debut of Maneesh Sharma.Arjun Rampal and Prachi Desai won awards for best supporting characters in the thriller “Raajneeti” and the gangster film “Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai,” as stated. Ritesh Deshmukh, co-hosted the awards show alongwith Boman Irani.

The inside story of IIFA

Inplace of red colour, the carpet has been now coloured in green to represent the enviroment. The organizers of the show were time conscious and grumbled up security to help the stars flee inside. Holding fashionable purses or waving or simly stuffing their manicured fingers in their Armani or Sabyasachi or Rajesh Pratap Singh or Vikram Phadnis collection they sizzled and rushed inside .

The music of Shanker Ehsaan Loy , Jermaine Jackson , the dancing diva Diya , Shamaik Davar group and the Punjabi bhangra twist gives every individual the inspiration to move and swing, clap and tap their toes.The glamour in full presentation at IIFA .Bollywood filmmaker and producer Karan Johar and actress Anushka Sharma were the main invitees too.

Shahrukh Khan represented the best technical cinematography and art direction awards with a spokesperson from the Bay and amazed the audience by quoting dialogues from his film Don. During the day the people in the downtown core near the Eaton centre had caught a glaze of the King Khan visiting the Mayor Rob Ford.Above all, the gorgeous babe, Mallika Sherawat also performed on some numbers . Bipasha Basu, Neha dhupia, walked the ramp like many others. The bhangra group RDB appealed to all ages and lot of masti was spreaded under one roof.

International Indian Film Academy Awards 2011

Bollywood actor Salman Khan starrer Dabangg put the foot forward at the International Indian Film Academy awards, organized and for the first time in North America.Dabangg won Best Film award and the highly essential music categories for best female playback singer, best male playback singer and best music direction, as well as best screenplay. On the other side, Shahrukh Khan starrer My Name is Khan in which SRK is showcased as a Muslim suffering from Asperger's syndrome who is put under custody at a US airport after his disability is mistaken for mistrustful behaviour, got awards for best story and best lyrics.

The hit movie, nominated in seven categories, also took home the prize for best direction.Shahrukh has taken the trophy for Best Actor in My Name is Khan with him and asserted that it’s great that he’s getting the award from Million Dollar Baby and Slumdog Millionaire stars. My Name Is Khan gave SRK that reason to speak his own mind with a character. Karan Johar won the best director award for My Name Is Khan. American actor Cuba Gooding Jr presented him the award.

A simple girl who made her mark in Bollywood soon and established herself as an accomplished actress so far, Anushka Sharma won the award for Female Leading Role for Band Baaja Baraat. The actress said that it feels great and thanked Toronto for all love and support.Indian screenwriter Shibani Bhatija won Best Story for My name Is Khan. The IIFA launched in 2000 at the Millennium Dome in London, the annual IIFA awards were organized in eleven cities around the world, including Colombo, Macao, Bangkok, Dubai, Amsterdam and Johannesburg. The award is particularly designed to celebrate the popular Hindi-language film fraternity and win new audiences internationally .

SRK rocked IIFA with his dance performance

The real king of Bollywood Shahrukh Khan grab the show at IIFA 2011, organized at the Roger Centre in Toronto on Saturday night, by giving out an exhilarating performance at the event with his injured knee. It is said that Shahrukh Khan left his uncountable fans and critics at the awards function with their eyes wide open with shock, when after performing on the ‘Dabangg’ number, the filmstar left the stage with bleeding knees.

Before I forget to mention, an observer at the event a person told that it was a creepy picture that came infront of all present at the event. The organizers had tailored SRK’s dancing steps in keeping with his injury. But Shahrukh completely overlooked the boundaries forced by his injury and started dancing like a crazy man. But soon after the performance was completed he just drooped out.Ace choreographer Shiamak Davar and his team had choreographed painless dance steps for the superstar. However, SRK performed enthusiastically at the IIFA, not putting much attention of easy and tough dance steps and enthralled the crowd at the event.

Shiamak also said that Shahrukh danced through his pain like a perfect dancer as if nothing had happened to him. Though he was in great pain. Ever since there have been news that Salman Khan and the Bachchans won’t be attending IIFA 2011, assumptions have been lifted that these bigwigs gave the event a miss because of Shahrukh’s presence.However, Shahrukh putting rest at the gossips mentioned that he actually don't understand what media wanted to ask. The actor also said that together they all have been under one crown several times and are always proud of all the award functions,

especially IIFA being the finest, globally and whenever they are invited, they happily attend the function. Raising question about why SRK didn’t turn up to the IIFA for past seven years, he candidly said that he knows a lot of people gossiping that why he didn’t attend IIFA for so many years, the star stated that there were no personal grudges about this issue rather he could’nt make it to IIFA just to spend enough time with his children.Well, we think that stars like SRK make IIFA an unforgettable night. IIFA 2011 star studded affair

IIFA Awards 2011 are organized every year by the International Indian Film Academy to credit and award the performers and technicians of Bollywood industry. The entire idea of these awards started back in 2000 and since then the ceremony has been organized in numerous countries all across the globe like London, Sun City, Johannesburg, Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai, Amsterdam, Yorkshire, Bangkok, Macau and Colombo respectively.

Hilary Swank rocked IIFA 2011

The most famous Hollywood actress Hilary Swank was present at the 2011 International Indian Film Academy Awards, organized at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada on June 25. Dabbang emerged as the winner at IIFA

Salman Khan starrer "Dabangg", which was 2010’s biggest Bollywood success, was considered as the best movie at the sizzling 12th International Indian Film Academy awards held in Toronto. The action-comedy genre received seven awards. Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan was named the best male actor for his performance as an asperger patient in Karan Johar's "My Name Is Khan", while Anushka Sharma bagged the best female actress award for her energetic performance of a wedding planner in "Band Baaja Baraat".

Paying tributes to Yash Johar, whose seventh death anniversary falls Sunday, SRK said that he’s honored that he could receive this award on this day. SRK also said that he have received so much love that he felt as if he belongs to Toronto. KaranJohar, who got the best filmmaker award for "My Name Is Khan" and said that this is his first IIFA award. On the whole, “Dabangg" got seven awards, including best female debut for Sonakshi Sinha too.

RanvirSingh won the award for best debut male award for "Band Baaja Baaraat". The award for male supporting role went to Arjun Rampal for playing a politician in the political thriller "Raajneeti" that also starred Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif. PrachiDesai won the trophy for female supporting role for her performace in "Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai". Whereas, MamtaSharma won the award for best female playback singer for her song "Munni Badnaam hui" from "Dabanng".

Stars spotted in Toronto

Some of Bollywood film industry’s biggest stars reached Toronto on Tuesday to attend this week's International Indian Film Academy Awards and festival. Crowd of fans studded themselves at Pearson airport's international approaching area to welcome bigwigs like Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Sonu Sood and many others.One of the fan present at the airport said that she always followed the IIFA shows. Coming to the IIFA was a huge thing because it happens once in a lifetime. Similar feedback is expected later this week when baadshah Shahrukh Khan will come in town.

The International Indian Film Academy

Indian Awards

The Indian film fraternity is the much aged and the biggest in the world with over 12 hundred films released every year. Zee Cine Awards 2011

As reported Zee Cine Awards 2011, are the biggest awards in Bollywood film fraternity. The Marina Bay Sands in Singapore organized the Zee Cine Awards 2011. Zee Cine Award is Bollywood’s only audience’s choice award which has accomplished its twelve years now. This year too the award function was hosted against the dramatic milieu of Asia’s most favored place Marina Bay Sands. This award function is too held on a large scale in Bollywood since years.

Dabangg received the Best Film award at the event, while for the Best Actress category Vidya Balan bagged it for her outstanding performance in Ishqiya.

Filmfare Awards

The Filmfare Awards are given once a year by The Times Group to credit both creative and technical brilliance of skilled persons in the Hindi film industry of India. The Filmfare function is one of the oldest and most important movie events given for Hindi flicks in India. The filmfare awards were initially brought into existence in 1954, the same time as the National Film Awards.

Short history of IIFA Awards

58th National Film Awards

The 58th National Film Awards is one of the best awards night in the Hindi film fraternity. It is presented to the best of Indian Cinemas released during the year 2010. 58th National Film Awards has been announced on Thursday. The Cannes International Film Festival 2011 is one of the most attractive and prestigious film awards in the Film Industry. This year Bollywood is representing India. Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Awards 2011

Likewise, for giving outstanding performance in No One Killed Jessica, actress Rani Mukherjee bagged the award. In a way to encourage the new faces in the film industry Dadaphalke award was also given to Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh for their good attempt in Band Baaja Baraat.

Kailasam Balachander has directed many movies in Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Telgu, and Hindi. He is a good director, producer and screen-writer. Rao will join the jury team

Gitanjali Rao who has already won the Kodak Discovery Award for her best short film at the Cannes Film Festival in the year 2006, for ‘The Printed Rainbow’. Now she has been invited to join the jury for this year. This 64th Cannes Film Festival will start from May 11 to May 22, 2011. Gitanjali Rao will be on jury of the Kodak Discovery Award for short films. After this announcement, she said that she is very thrilled to be on the Kodak jury of the Cannes festival.

The award is presented by the Semaine International de la Critique (SIC, International Critics’ Week), a prestigious parallel section of the Cannes festival open only to first and second films. Gitanjali Rao's 'Printed Rainbow', an exquisite, feminist animation film about an old woman and her cat who escapes into a dream world inspired by matchbox labels, made a spectacular debut at Cannes in 2006. It scooped up three awards for best short film in the Critics' Week - the Kodak Discovery Award, the Rail d'Or and Young Critics' Award. The film traveled to over 100 international festivals and won 27 awards. Gitanjali Rao is the first Indian animation film director to be invited on the Kodak Discovery Award jury.

The Independent Spirit Awards

The Independent Spirit Awards formerly called as the FINDIE (Friends of Independents Awards), founded in 1984, are awards devoted to directors who are work on their own. Winners were normally honoured with acrylic glass pyramids holding balanced shoestrings demonstrating the worthless budgets of independent movies.

In 1986, the incident was renamed the Independent Spirit Awards. The Independent Spirit Awards are given by Film Independent, an institution dedicated to independent movie and independent filmmakers. The categories under which this award is given away are as follows- Best Film, Best Director, Best First Feature, Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead, Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead, Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female, Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male, Best Screenplay, Best First Screenplay, Best Foreign Film, Best Documentary Feature, Best Cinematography John Cassavetes Award, Robert Altman Award, Acura Someone to Watch Award, Piaget Producers Award, Truer than Fiction Award and so on.

On the other hand , the Indian screen magazine Filmfare begin the first Filmfare Awards in 1953. These awards were to titled as the Bollywood's version of the Academy Awards. Regular Magazine readers put forward their votes and the awards are demonstrated at a sensational, star-studded event. Alike Oscars, these awards are commonly charged under favoritism towards commercial success relatively than merit. Stardust magazine, Zee TV and others later stepped into the award business. Entries For The 58th National Film Awards 2010

The Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF) has given invitation to the entries for the 58th National Film Awards for 2010 which will be accessible in three sections as feature films, non-feature films and best writing on cinema. The procedure was set in motion with the issuance of the notification to this effect, along with the detailed conventions, which can be watched on the DFF's website.

Non Feature Flicks carry twenty-two different awards which include- Best Non-feature film, Best Debut Non-feature film of a Director, Best Anthropological and Ethnographic Film and Best Biographical and Historical Reconstruction and compilation film. Only movies specialized by Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) are appropriate for access in these awards. Not just that, there is also a National Award for Best Writing on Cinema which comprises of two different awards such as Best Book on Cinema and Best Critic. The cut-off date for submission of entries is April 7, 2011.

There will be a two tier system i.e., a Regional Jury and Central Jury in a way to make assortment for the range of categories of awards. The Government also gives Indian cinema’s highest honour, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, to a movie character for his or her wonderful contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema.

Hindi film industry casts vote for IIFA 2011

The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) voting weekend for the award in Toronto has been opened on Friday to the members of the Indian Film fraternity. It has been speculated that Kareena leads the first vote. Other actors who cast their votes were Arjun Rampal, Sonu Sood, Karan Johar, Riteish Deshmukh, Ramesh Sippy, J.P. Dutta, Manmohan Shetty, Karan Johar and the other members of the film industry and the Advisory Board of IIFA.

In an media interaction Kareena Kapoor reveled that It was a great privilege that has been given to her to cast the first vote and inaugurate the 12th IIFA Voting Weekend. She also added that IIFA has set a high standard with its voting procedure and hence established a benchmark for excellence and credibility. This being the IIFA’s premiere in North America, the actress is eagerly looking forward to the IIFA Weekend in Toronto. This year in 2011 the IIFA celebrations will complete it's 12th year. IIFA will make its North American debut in Ontario, Canada this year wherein the three-day long IIFA Weekend and Awards is all set to take place from the 23 to 25 June.

One of the member from the IIFA Advisory Board, Ramesh Sippy reveled that In the 12th year of IIFA, they will continue the focus of promoting the very best of Indian cinema globally and the IIFA Voting Weekend is a key component of making IIFA, the success it is. BIG STAR IMA Awards

12th March 2011 the grand finale of the Big Star IMA awards held with lots of energy, fruition. The star studded event where Abhishek Bachchan, Mika Singh and Shankar Mahadevan brought the house down at the awards function. They shaked their legs on the top bollywood numbers including Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Beera Beera, Right Here Right Now, Dus Bahane, Jugni, Pyar do Pyar lo.

Lavasa Women's Drive Awards

The third edition of Lavasa Women's Drive Awards that took place at a suburban five star hotel in Mumbai recently.

Anuradha Paraskar Sr Vice President – Marketing, Lavasa Corporation Ltd and Devieka Bhojwani Vice President Women's Cancer Initiative welcomed the participants. The beautiful Aishwarya Rai Bachchan presented awards to the winners of the Lavasa Women's Drive.

The beautiful actress handed awards to Anisha Oberoi for her continual fight against breast cancer and to Dr K Dinshaw for her exemplary work in cancer research. Stars of the upcoming film Faltu were spotted there during handed over the few awards.

Stand-up comedian Bharati kept everyone in splits while Shweta Pandit mesmerised audience with her rendition of Bollywood numbers. Said Anuradha, "The passionate involvement of all the participants was exemplary. Whilst at Lavasa, not only did they all enjoy the events but in fact many cancer survivors came forth and shared their experiences urging all women to be careful and prevent cancer.

Devika reveled that Lavasa is proud to own this unique concept and looks forward to making it better and better over the years!

It couldn't have been easy getting away on a Sunday morning, but they were all there, bright and early, cheered on by family and friends, in their beautifully decorated cars, carrying message and slogans in support of the cause! I am so glad that at the award function we have also honoured some exceptional women who have dedicated their lives to the cause and cures of cancer, along with some brave cancer survivors.

56th Filmfare Awards night

It was a glittering event as all the stars shined at the 56th Filmfare Award function. Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan and the most soughted out Bollywood actress Kajol were honoured with the Best Actor and Best Actress category. The starry evening witnessed industry biggies coming together under one roof to make the event one of the most esteemed and wonderful show of the year.

Apsara Awards night rocked

Ramesh Sippy, President of the Guild asserted that the Apsara Awards are only one of the kind in the fact that the winners are chosen from within the industry. Salman Khan starrer ‘Dabangg’ maintained the graph scoring the highest points and dekhte hi dekhte it bagged seven awards for Best Actor, Best Film, Best Music, Best Male Singer, Best Female Singer and last but not the least Best Performance in Negative Role. Small budget flicks like Anusha Rizvi’s Peepli Live won the award for Best Story , Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? Won the award for Best Performance in a Comic Role that went to Paresh Rawal (the comedy king) and Love Sex Aur Dhoka won the award for Best Sound Recording.

IIFA Awards to be held in Toronto

The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards are set to be organized in Toronto from June 16 till June19, 2011. Bollywood celebrities Vivek Oberoi and Celina Jaitely, announced about the event in the presence of Ontario’s Premier Dalton McGuinty.

McGuinty however mentioned that to win this opportunity to host the 2011 IIFA awards, one has to know that Bollywood is in Ontario, especially Toronto. He also told the stars here that Toronto city is the city of five billion people; 52 percent or half of the people living here were born outside the country. And a big component of that comes from the Asian community, particularly from India. So this is gonna be exciting to have a gathering here. It was also stated that the IIFA awards should attract about 40 thousand visitors to the city and another 350 million audiences to television screens worldwide.

South Asians make up the largest perceptible minority in Toronto, with about 300,000, 12 per cent of the whole city’s population. Bollywood actress Celina Jaitley in an interview that Canada is a big support for Bollywood as there is huge fan following there. She further added that she is pretty sure that this time IIFA will be really big because a large number of fans are from Canada itself. IIFA ceremonies have been earlier hosted by Dubai, Amsterdam, Johannesburg and Bangkok. This time too it’ll be a great evening with stars twinkling all around!!!!

Winners for Zee Cine Award

Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan was earlier loved by his fans but this time, he is also been appreciated by Zee Cine Awards, as the Best Actor Male after defeating actor Salman Khan. Dabangg has bagged a number of award but this time Salman Khan seems fail of getting the best award for Dabangg.

There is a long list of Bollywood actors and actresses who bagged the award, were Shahrukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Vidya Balan. After marking win-win tag Hrithik Roshan told that Guzaarish is a special film to him because of its message. It is the suffering, weaknesses, and misery in life. Although Dabangg seems to be the most famous flick among the audiences and has locked five trophies tags for Best Film, Best Debut Female to Sonakshi Sinha, Best Debutant Director to Abhinav Kashyap,

Best Song to Munni Badnaam Hui and Best Music to Sajid-Wajid. Winners of Zee Cinema award 2011 list includes- Best Actor Male Hrithik Roshan for Guzaarish. Best Actress Female Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for Guzaarish. Best Film Jury Choice was Udaan. Best Story award was given to Karan Johar and Shibani Bathija for SRK and Kajol starrer My Name Is Khan. Best Music award was awarded to Sajid-Wajid for Dabangg and many more.

2011 comes up with Star Screen Awards

Award function have always been a studded affair. The star screen awards are the most probable of all the Indian film awards. The fascinating screen awards came into existence in the year 1994. Since then Mr. Viveck Goenka of the Indian Express Group initiates all the screen award ceremonies.

The screen awards are the only Indian award ceremony which has deeply involved the Executive Director and the Governor of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The star screen awards are given away to the winners on the basis of their excellent performance in the Bollywood. The nomination and selection is done by a panel of renowned personalities from the film fraternity itself.

Thus these awards are considered as one of the prestigious and toughest award to win in Bollywood. All the screen award functions are generally organized in Mumbai only. The exclusive feature of the screen awards is that it is presented to Hindi and Marathi movies, Television and Non-film Music in the month of January every year. To enhance their popularity, screen awards also held seven editions of 'Screen Awards for excellence in South Indian, to be acquainted with and reward regional movies of South India. The South Indian films which were awarded were in Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu and Tamil respectively.

Zee Cine Awards to be held in Singapore

Zee Entertainment Enterprises will organize the Zee Cine Awards at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore on 14 January, 2011. The Zee Cine Awards which is considered as the grandest tribute paid to the world's largest film industry and has attracted the stalwarts of Indian cinema over the years.
