Filmfare Awards bestowed upon Amitabh Bachchan

The Filmfare Best Actor Award is given by Filmfare as part of its annual Filmfare Awards for Hindi (Bollywood) films, to recognise a male actor who has delivered an outstanding performance in a leading role. The award was first instituted in 1954.

Amitabh Bachchan have four wins in this category. In 1978 for film, Amar Akbar Anthony , in 1979 for Don, 1992 for Hum, and in 2006 for Black.

Dilip Kumar also holds the record for most consecutive wins from 1956 to 1958. Five other actors have won the award in consecutive years; in chronological order, they are Rajesh Khanna (1972-72),Sanjeev Kumar (1976-77), Amitabh Bachchan (1978-79), Naseeruddin Shah (1981-82) and Shahrukh Khan (1998-99).

Amitabh Bachchan holds the record for most Best Actor nominations, with 26, followed by Dilip Kumar and Shahrukh Khan, who have 19 and 18 nominations respectively.

Bachchan and Khan also hold the record for most number of Best Actor nominations in a single year, having been nominated thrice in 1979 and 2005 respectively.


Amitabh has won maximum 3 Filmfare Awards in Supporting Actor Male Category also. First,in 1972 for Aanand, 1974 for Namak Haraam and finally in 2001 for Mohabattein.

In 1990, he became the first recipient of Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2000, he won the Superstar of the Millennium.In 2001, Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance for Aks and in 2003

Filmfare Power Award also went to him.
